It may be under appreciated, but QuickTime is a powerful video player app and includes support for many popular video and movie file formats without needing to add any plugins or third party tools, it just works with most videos. App discovery is really awful in the Mac App Store because the same old apps are always featured and if not for randomly stumbling across this app from another website I’d never have discovered it. QuickTime comes free and bundled on every Mac by default as the systems movie player. Best of all the developer seems really dedicated to maiantaing the app. If you’ve been looking for a player to be able to view some old shockwave animations produced around 10 years ago.

The Elmedia Player can be both used as Flash and media player for Mac OS X. Every video I’ve tried so far has played and best of all I’ve yet to see any ads before the videos. This media player offers smoother playback when other media players show choppy video.

It has a nice clean look and the Pro version allows searching Youtube right from the menubar and supports playlists. I like that this app allows the videos to float over all windows and that the windows themselves are easily resizable. I’ve tried free alternatives and paid alternatives like MenuTab for Youtube (which for the record is broken, I haven’t gotten it to play any videos in weeks) and I find this to be the best yet, which is why I gladly paid for it. It’s not for everyone, especially at this price. I still highly recommend this app though. I’ve gotten around most of the problems by using the browser extension instead of interacting directly with the menu bar icon but it’s a frustrating work around. Point them here so they can download a free version of a RealPlayer International video player in their preferred language. When it works great it’s a fantastic app that lets you watch/listen to YouTube videos while simultaneously getting out of your way. The developer is very active with maintaing the app and responds almost immediately to all emails but after sending a few bug reports I almost feel like I’m a bother. I honetsly use it everyday however recently I have been having some minor but ultimately annoying problems. Embedding the video player on our website was very important, the ability for people to 'Follow' us on Livestream and receive a push notification when we go. We believe our plan is an exceptional value and offers just the right options.

This sets TubeG apart from every other YouTube app - TubeG is by far the best app of its kind! The simplicity of the Mac OS X Producer app allows our volunteers to run our stream with minimal training. You can make your own playlists in TubeG to sort out the content you want to save for later.īeing able to save your stopping place in the video really makes TubeG useful for watching classroom lectures, documentaries, speeches and movies on YouTube. I’ve added the TubeG component to my Google Chrome browser so that if I see something I want to watch later I can click the icon on the Chrome task bar and load the YouTube video in TubeG for saving.

In addition to that great feature, it’s a really clean and easy to understand interface. TubeG lets me keep a list of content I want to watch in a completely different app, so that closing the browser (or shutting down the computer) doesn’t make me lose my place. I used to try to watch longer YouTube videos in my web browser, but I would usually close the tab or the browser absent-mindedly, and lose my place. TubeG saves my place when I watch a lecture or documentary on YouTube, so that I can come back at any time and pick up where I left off.

TubeG has changed how I watch YouTube videos. From the control panel you can adjust video brightness, saturation, contrast and hue, change the play speed, adjust subtitles settings and sync. Seems like it’s a trend these days, but it’s ok nonetheless. What is that? Some 128px icon file found on Deviantart? But most all, why there’s “VLC” written on it? Come guys, ok for the open source thing, but you could use an original icon at least.Īnyway, Movist features a simple and minimal UI, pretty much like MPlayer does, with the control panel and playlist windows appearing as HUD panels.

The app is called Movist, is hosted (again) on Google Code and it’s media player for Mac OS X based on Quicktime and FFMpeg.įirst, let me start with the thing I don’t like about it: the icon. It’s always a great thing when you guys suggest me new apps to try and write about. And also, the new technologies from Apple prevailed-such as Core Animation, Grand-Central Dispatch, even OpenCL-and pushed me to give them a try. Yesterday I wrote this post about MPlayer OS X Extended and many people in the comments and on Twitter told me I was wrong, that there was another alternative to VLC, and it wasn’t the app I talked about. MPlayerX is an alternative media player powered by ffmpeg and mplayer.
